About the Spanish Program

CPI takes pride in the high quality of instructional materials utilized (all texts have been developed within CPI) and effective teaching staff. We use a series of three textbooks (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), which are designed to teach, contextualize, and reinforce core grammar concepts that are instrumental to Spanish proficiency.

CPI's teaching methodology is based on daily conversations derived from the interests of the students. The conversations are supplemented by oral and written exercises, as well as other activities. The primary goal is that students develop confidence in speaking Spanish. For this reason, student participation in class is strongly encouraged.

Classes begin every Monday and are held from Monday to Friday. The small classes provide each student the greatest level of interaction with other students as well as personalized attention from the professor.

- The program of 3 classroom hours per day, is designed to allow for adequate time to undertake activities outside of the classroom.

Minimum 12 participants is required.

NOTE: Spanish lessons may be held all year round if there is a minimum group of 12 people, please contact us for availability. In this case the accommodations would be completely private for your family and group of friends!

CPI also offers one on one lessons providing even more personalized attention with class time directed to specific topics of interest; for example, one may focus on specialized Spanish and terminology in the areas of business, social work, law enforcement, politics, species of plants, nutrition, information technology, petroleum, education, ecology, environmental, sports, economy and medicine. CPI provides the vocabulary materials, with English to Spanish translations, and practical situations are acted out to give the student the chance to use and practice Spanish for their respective professional field.

Students may schedule one on one lessons in combination with the group classes, for example, you may take group classes in the morning and private classes in the afternoon after 1:00 p.m. There are 2 private lessons included in the price, one hour per class.

The professors will join you at the night activities organized by Tierra Magnífica, continuing to encourage you to speak and practice Spanish outside of classes, in a fun environment! Our goal is that you experience as close to a 100% Spanish immersion ambience as possible.

Interested in an even more intensive Spanish experience?

Before or after taking this course at the wonderful Tierra Magnifica we invite you to take lessons at one or more of our CPI campuses located in the Central Valley , the Cloud Forest and the Flamingo beach.

Below is a brief description of the other CPI locations:

In San Joaquín de Flores, where the Heredia campus is located, students learn Spanish in a truly immersive environment - a typical Costa Rican town, relatively free of tourists. A safe and peaceful community, San Joaquín is just a 30-minute drive from San José , allowing students easy access to the activities and nightlife of Costa Rica 's capital city.

The CPI Monteverde campus is world-famous for its incredible biodiversity and successful efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable development. CPI Monteverde has become an integral part of this unique community, working with local organizations to place CPI students in volunteer positions throughout the region.

Flamingo Beach, a beautiful Pacific coastal town in the province of Guanacaste, is the site of CPI Flamingo, allowing students to combine intensive Spanish instruction with a beach vacation, with plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, fishing, and sailing in one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beach communities.
